The Ateh Theater Group is committed to bringing
theater to students with limited access to the arts. We have taught
classes in improvisation, stage combat and scene study and welcome
local teaching opportunities as we continue to expand our education
department. To find out about bringing Ateh company members to teach
at your school or community center or having your group attend an
Ateh production, please email
group@ateh.org.
In 2007, the
Ateh was in residence at Sherman Avenue Middle School in Trenton,
NJ. Sherman is an alternative middle school for students at high
risk for school failure and gang activity. All of its students
have been expelled from their traditional public schools and have
a profound need to be engaged. We introduced them to stage combat,
improvisation and Shakespeare in order to foster interest in the
arts as well as to develop skills like the ability to take direction,
focus, and work as a team.

Summer
Workshop at The Women’s Project
The Ateh held
a free acting class for teens in conjunction with The Women’s
Project in the summer of 2007. We focused on scene study, improvisation,
and stage combat. We would like to thank The Women’s Project
for their help and space and look forward to providing more classes
in the future.
